Mapping Emotional Landscapes – Woniora Road High School

Students looked at the work of Grayson Perry, in particular his work Map of an Englishman which depicts an imaginary emotional landscape. Students developed their own vocabulary of emotions and feelings, and working onto a blank map of St. George, they depicted them as settlements within an emotional landscape. Drawing upon a broad range of architectural examples of ‘citadel’ or settlement they first created a kind of collage Tower of Babel mashing these different architectural styles together. Medieval cartography and early maps were then looked at to re-create St. George and Botany as an emotional map.
